All eyes may be on the upcoming general election, but today marks an important moment in recent British political history, with voters in six English city regions going to the polls to elect the first ever metro mayors. With considerable powers over housing, transport and infrastructure, and the largest personal mandates in UK politics after Sadiq Khan, the new mayors could have a huge impact in the city regions they’re representing.
