Theresa May has promised to build an economy that works for everyone, by raising prosperity up and down the country. To achieve that vision, the Prime Minister needs to boost growth and tackle the UK’s economic divides, which helped drive the vote for Brexit across many areas of the North.
Building on the Northern Powerhouse is one obvious way to tackle these issues. But for the Government to succeed in raising prosperity across the North, it should return to the original focus of the initiative – boosting the economic performance of major Northern city-regions such as Greater Manchester and the Leeds city-region.
