Within hours of the General Election result being confirmed, both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor reaffirmed their commitment to creating a Northern Powerhouse, capable of rebalancing the economy and enabling more places in the UK to compete for, and benefit from, growth globally.
With expectations running high around the devolution agenda there is a significant temptation to encourage the government to announce a new swathe of devolution-related policies. But this would be a tactical mistake. Before we move on to new policies we need to nail down the commitments already made.
