We were delighted to partner with the OECD on the international launch of two new reports on urbanisation across the globe. Listen to the presentation here.
Centre for Cities was delighted to host a roundtable in partnership with the OECD as part of the global launch of their two new books – The Metropolitan Century and Governing the City. The Metropolitan Century looks at the recent trend of urbanisation around the globe, it’s rapid growth rate and what challenges and opportunities that will be presented in the future. Governing the City explores how leadership and governance structures in cities affect the growth and productivity of urban economies. The reports and related policy briefings are available on the OECD website.
You can hear the presentation from Luiz de Mello, Deputy Director of the Public Governance and Territorial Development Directorate at the OECD, and follow the slides that are referenced below.

Good lecture – very clear presentation.
While there was quite a lot of data on the economic benefits of the larger cities etc, there were no metrics of the downside of the larger cities including inequality and congestion. I wonder how much congestion reduces productivity for instance? How do you factor inequality? If a city is more productive but those benefits are not shared, how is this a good thing? How do you measure this?
