Chief Executive Andrew Carter speaks with four mayoral candidates ahead of the upcoming South Yorkshire elections to discuss their priorities for improving the city region’s economy

On 5 May 2022, residents of South Yorkshire (formerly Sheffield City Region) returned to the polls for a second time to elect Labour’s Oliver Coppard as the new mayor.

In the run up to the election, Andrew Carter was joined by candidates to discuss their priorities for improving the economic performance of South Yorkshire:

  • Simon Biltcliffe, Yorkshire Party
  • Oliver Coppard, Labour Party
  • Joe Otten, Liberal Democrats
  • Bex Whyman, Green Party

A week after the election, The Yorkshire Post’s Political Editor, Chris Burn joined Andrew to discuss how having the mayor has benefited the region so far and future challenges for the new mayor.
