Where next for devolution in England?

Online briefing and Q&A

The latest thinking on devolution in England

Event starts at 12.00 -13.00 on 7 May 2020 at Online

On what would have been election day for mayors and councils around the country, hear our latest thinking for the next steps on devolution in England.

Thursday 7 May would have seen mayoral elections in city regions in London, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Liverpool and Tees Valley. The elections have been postponed for a year due to the pandemic so we will be taking this opportunity to take stock of what has been achieved so far, where devolution should go next and what this means for local government, the Government’s levelling up agenda and the post-pandemic recovery.

This event included a presentation from Simon Jeffrey, Policy Officer at Centre for Cities, followed by responses from Prof Tony Travers of the London School of Economics and Prof Francesca Gains of the University of Manchester, and a Q&A session chaired by Andrew Carter, Chief Executive of Centre for Cities.
