’The Supreme Leveller-Upper’: How can transport help rebalance the UK’s economic geography?

Private Roundtable with Baroness Vere of Norbiton, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Transport

Event starts on 12 July 2022

Published in February, the Levelling Up White Paper presents an ambitious, decade-long programme to change the UK’s economic geography and narrow the regional inequality gap, ensuring that geography is no barrier to opportunity.

Outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson described transport as “the supreme leveller-upper” and the Levelling Up White Paper sets out the goal of bringing transport across the UK “significantly closer to the standards of London”, but what needs to happen to achieve this ambition? How can transport providers and devolved administrations spur growth in regional economies through better transport links? And what support from Government is required in order to realise this?

This private roundtable event brought together senior figures from public transport providers, transport companies, industry bodies and academics to explore the role of transport in levelling up.
