Labour party conference fringe: the future of urban leadership

Join us and the new Labour metro mayors in our party conference fringe event

Event starts at 12.45pm on 25 September 2017 at Tennyson Room, Jury's Inn Waterfront, Brighton

The 2017 Autumn Party Conferences will be the first in which six powerful new urban leaders have been elected. To celebrate the success of this transformation of UK city governance, Centre for Cities will bring together the elected mayors representing the relevant political party alongside experts in the fields of transport, housing and skills policy – areas where the mayors have the most power to deliver change.

The event will combine quick pitches from each of the experts as well as further audience questions directed at the mayors. By bringing together the people with the best ideas for forward-looking policy, we hope the event will be both lively and offer the mayors a chance to respond with new ideas to real challenges – demonstrating the power and scope of the mayoral model as a whole.

Mayors:

Andy Burnham, Greater Manchester Metro Mayor
Steve Rotheram, Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor

Experts:

Michelle Dix, Managing Director, Crossrail 2, Transport for London
Professor Francesca Gains, Head of Politics, University of Manchester
David Orr, Chief Executive, National Housing Federation

Chair:

Andrew Carter, Chief Executive, Centre for Cities
