Investing in city-region transport

This event in partnership with Transport for London and Transport for Greater Manchester was held to launch new work by Volterra Partners looking into the best investments for city-region transport

Event starts on 18 November 2014 at Manchester Town Hall

Transport for London and Transport for Greater Manchester are launching a new paper, by Volterra Partners, calling for major reforms to decision-making about transport infrastructure, designed to put jobs, housing and growth centre stage. We will hear from leading city figures about the powers they need to ensure visionary schemes such as One North and Crossrail 2 are game changers for their cities.

The event will launch independent research commissioned by TfL and TfGM from Volterra, that highlights how the UK’s centralised system of determining priorities for infrastructure investment does not work for cities, and is failing to deliver national ambitions to engender jobs growth and economic prosperity.

Building on the recommendations of our report Delivering change – making transport work for cities, the event will also look at how cities like London, Manchester and Leeds can work together now to deliver transport improvements and how the UK as a whole would benefit from a ‘peer group’ of cities with similar powers and responsibilities for transport.

We are delighted to be joined by:

  • Sir Peter Hendy CBE, Commission, Transport for London
  • Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive, Manchester City Council
  • Bridget Roswell, Founding Partner, Volterra Partners, and member of the RSA City Growth Commission
  • Andrew Carter, Acting Chief Executive, Centre for Cities (Chair)

The event takes place on Tuesday 18 November, from 7pm to 8.30pm in Manchester. It is invitation only, but if you would like more information, please send an email to rsvp@centreforcities.org.
