Conservative Party Conference Fringe: From State to City

Join us for our open fringe at the Conservative Conference which will ask - are city leaders the new policy pioneers?

Event starts at 1pm-2pm on 1 October 2018 at Room 101, Library of Birmingham

As central government is faced with complex Brexit negotiations, those likely to be the most active and successful in delivering domestic policy in the UK are city leaders and mayors. This fringe event will be a chance to discuss how cities – whether led by a metro mayor, city mayor, or council leader – are in the best position to respond to the needs of local residents and business, and take forward effective and impactful policy at the local level.

Set in the context of major changes, from leaving Europe to impending automation, city leaders will showcase the ways they are taking on the opportunities of the future and set out why they are the politicians who will be and should be the leaders of change.

We are delighted to be joined by a fantastic panel of city leaders, alongside a national government perspective:

Cllr Donna Jones, Conservative Group Leader and Former Council Leader of Portsmouth
Neil O’Brien MP Member for Harborough and Board Member of Onward
James Palmer, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
Cllr David Renard,
Leader of Swindon

Join us at the Library of Birmingham in Room 101 from 1pm until 2pm.

This event is free to attend, outside the secure zone and no registration is required.
