Building Back Better: How to recover from Covid-19 – report launch

Online briefing and Q&A

Event starts at 13.15- 14.15 on 22 March 2021 at Online, via Zoom

In recent months, the UK has seen job losses and in many places the number of people claiming unemployment benefits has risen sharply. In the next few years, the question of how to create new jobs will be at the top of the agenda for policymakers and central to the task of levelling up.

This new research – in partnership with HSBC UK –  analysed in detail for the first time where jobs have been created and lost over the decade running up to the pandemic. Its findings will seek to inform what happens post-Covid to help people and places recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Paul Scully MP, Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Labour Markets, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
  • Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader, Bradford Council
  • Sarah Howard, Chair, British Chambers of Commerce
  • Ian Stuart, Chief Executive, HSBC UK
  • Paul Swinney, Director of Policy and Research, Centre for Cities

The event was chaired by Andrew Carter, Chief Executive of Centre for Cities.
