As part of 'Beyond the High Street' this paper looks in more detail at Wakefield's city centre economy.
This report looks at the geography of jobs within Wakefield, and is part of Centre for Cities’ wider research looking at the patterns of economic development seen across cities in Britain.
Wakefield’s economy, defined as the Wakefield local authority area, has seen significant private sector jobs growth since 1998. Over this period, the city has ‘hollowed out’ as growth was driven by large businesses alongside motorway sites rather than in the city centre.
