At Labour party conference, Centre for Cities' and The Trainline held a fringe event on connecting cities - what next for urban transport? Conference goers discussed congestion charging in Manchester, the benefits of smart ticketing and Bristol's bike scheme with Ruth Kelly (former Transport Secretary), Louise Ellman (Transport Select Committee Chair), Angie Robinson (Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive) and The Trainline's Jeremy Acklam. At Conservative party conference in Birmingham, Centre for Cities and Trainline held a fringe event on the future for urban transport with Robert Goodwill (shadow transport minister), Sir Simon Milton (Deputy London Mayor), Steve Norris (Transport for London), David Frost (British Chambers of Commerce director) and Trainline's Jeremy Acklam. Chaired by Centre for Cities' Dermot Finch, the panel discussed the future for congestion charging in London, Manchester's proposed scheme, the Conservatives high speed rail proposals and taking integrated ticketing to more cities outside the capital.
