Launch of new report on Leeds city transport

New research from the Centre for Cities, to be launched at the offices of the Yorkshire Post on Wednesday 28th November, shows how the Leeds City Region - and other major urban areas - can make a stronger case for transport investment. In the light of the government's renewed drive to improve regional economies, it will present new evidence that shows how improvements to local transport networks could add tens of millions of pounds to the City Region's economy each year.

City Solutions: Towards a Supplementary Business Rate

Cities are the building blocks of the national economy – but they lack the financial resources needed to deliver capital investment, a key component of economic growth. The recent Sub-National Review of Economic Development and Regeneration proposed Supplementary Business Rates (SBRs) as a mechanism to enable cities to generate additional funds for infrastructure investment.

The Centre for Cities once again attended all three party conferences this year. We ran two fringe events at each conference: our Cities Question Time (sponsored by DLA Piper) and another on transport (sponsored by Virgin Trains). This short report brings together the key points from these events, plus some general observations on the state of the urban agenda in each of the three main political parties.
