Bloxham to chair Centre for Cities

Tom Bloxham MBE is to chair the ippr's Centre for Cities' new Steering Group. The Group will oversee the Centre's strategic direction and identify key issues for future research.
Centre for Cities hosts Urban Task Force report

Speaking at the launch of the new report by Lord Rogers and the Urban Task Force, Dermot Finch, Director of the Centre for Cities, said: "The Centre for Cities is pleased to host today's report. Cities have definitely got better since the first Task Force report in 1999. Design issues are important. But economic ones must come first. Increased output, employment and investment - more than better design - have been the key to the turnaround of our major cities. Government policy has helped, but now faces new challenges."
Centre for Cities team - three new researchers

The Centre for Cities has appointed three new researchers to build on the Centre's successful first six months. Liz Troni, Tracy Kornblatt and Chris Urwin take the team up to eight which represents a significant step forward and will allow the Centre to increase its research outputs.
Conference leaves Brighton residents cold

Instead of encouraging political participation, party conferences in Brighton leave local residents feeling disconnected from politics, according to the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr). This conclusion is based on the results of a public involvement event involving 85 residents of Brighton and Hove and hosted on Saturday by the ippr and its new urban research unit, the Centre for Cities.
Centre for Cities announces its city partners

ippr's Centre for Cities has announced its eight partner cities and towns. All eight will play a key role in the Centre's three new research projects. They are Birmingham, Barnsley, Derby, Doncaster, Dundee, Liverpool, Manchester and Sunderland. The Centre for Cities chose a mix of large cities and towns, in different parts of the country, each facing different challenges and opportunities.

Using the information from Sunderland's businesses, it will assess the impact of government policies on enterprise, transport, skills and planning.
