FutureStory: Derby and the East Midlands
Date: 12/06/2009Many industries and business have grown up in Derby and the East Midlands since the industrial revolution. Some, like lace and silk, are long gone now. Others, like trains and planes, are serving world markets and have global workforces.
Like the rest of the UK today, Derby and the East Midlands is going through a tough recession. But looking ahead, one thing is clear. The work that we do, the way that we live, and the cities that we live in, are all changing. And, everywhere across the region today, it is already possible to identify what the building blocks of the future will be.
"FutureStory: Derby and the East Midlands" is the first in a series of forward-looking books promoting a wider understanding of how globalisation is changing everyday lives and jobs in six cities and regions, that the Centre for Cities has been commissioned to produce by the Talent and Enterprise Taskforce (a DCSF / BIS initiative).
FutureStory is also on YouTube - have a look and leave a comment.
FutureStory booklets have also been published on on Southampton, Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle & the North East. See the FutureStory website for more information on the project.
