As part of our series of lectures from London’s Shard we welcomed Professor Diane Coyle – author of several books including Sex Drugs and Economics, The Economics of Enough and GDP: A Brief but Affectionate History. She is also visiting professor at the University of Manchester and Director of Enlightenment Economics.

As the UK enters a new phase in its relations with Europe and the rest of the world, trade and the production of goods and services will increasingly occupy political and policy minds. In the month following an unexpected General Election outcome which brought more questions than answers over Brexit negotiations and the future of the UK economy, Professor Coyle spoke on the role of cities as part of a modern industrial strategy, what that means for the UK’s global standing and its impact on nationwide economic growth.
