Do Regions Matter?

Date: 15/07/2009

This LGIU national conference seeks to debate the current regional agenda and future direction for regions.

Adam Marshall, head of policy at Centre for Cities, will be joining a panel discussion on the new regional infrastructure that aims to cover the following topics:

Do new arrangements - statutory city regions, MAAs, LAAs - provide the framework for flexible, dynamic collaboration around the problems we are now facing?  If not, what other tools and freedoms are needed?

How ready are local authorities to respond to new duties and powers offered to them under the sub-national review, such as setting up economic assessments and economic prosperity boards?

What evidence is there that early or planned innovations by entrepreneurial councils and partnerships will deliver benefit and how do we ensure that best practice is fed around the system effectively?

What are the blockages in governance structures which prevent action, and how do we clear them?
