City Markets report launch
Date: 21/06/2006
Speakers:
Prof Michael Porter, Harvard Business School
Dermot Finch, Director, Centre for Cities
Our City Markets report takes a close look at the links between business activity and deprivation, and assesses the effectiveness of the current policy framework. It proposes a new, targeted approach to trigger economic activity in "business-deprived" areas.
The launch event was held at Chartered Accountants' Hall. Dermot Finch presented the key findings of City Markets, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Michael Porter. As founder of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, Professor Porter pioneered the Inner City 100 and City Growth - both of which ran in the UK over the past few years. He spoke about the challenges facing the UK's deprived areas, and highlighted the vital role that business plays in revitalising deprived areas.
